G+ Mt. Fuji Photowalk – image set #6

Was hoping to get all the rest of the Fuji photos uploaded, but still ran out of time – this weekend for sure I'll finish them all and stop with all the Mt. Fuji shots!

In the meantime, gotta rush to work, have a good day (for those in my timezone, TGIF!)

G+ Mt. Fuji Photowalk – image set #5

I had to take of some work-related duties this morning so I didn't have a chance to work much on my photos, hence only these 2 images in this "set".

Gotta run to the office, so ciao for now!

Before continuing to work on more Mt

Fuji shots, I thought I'd upload a few more shots to my model album.  Here you see Azusa doing, amongst other cool poses, her awesome breakdance routine.  ;-)I'm trying to think of ways to try and create a backdrop setup for my apartment.  It would come in handy for days when the weather is not cooperating, or when I just want to play with seamless white/black backgrounds.  Anyone have tips on creating a collapsible backdrop?  (collapsible because I can't be drilling holes into the walls of my apartment of my small Japanese-size apartment)Have a good day ya'll!

I have been experimenting with ideas on how to represent an intimate side of people in my photographs, and recently I came to the idea of people in bathtubs. In Japan, the daily bath is a very important concept that sits deep in the public conscience as a requirement for health and happiness. Many Japanese religiously bathe every night before they go to bed. The immersion in very hot water up to the neck is particularly important, even though most homes have very small basins for washing.

The water is hot, and clean. Before entering the bath it is customary to wash the body with a shower head and soap, removing all of the sweat and oil from a day's work. Immersed in the tub, we are exceptionally naked, all of the toil scrubbed away; perhaps only a lingering film of fatigue masks the raw soul.

The bathroom is a private space, reserved for the family, and a place for releasing the stresses of the day. This special place says a lot about a person, and in photographing it I hope to convey this. The naked body immersed in hot water builds on the concept, and I hope that these portraits will share some of the raw experiences that many people purge themselves of in the daily bath.

I was so tired last night that I didn't even get a chance to reach my bed – I ended up sleeping on my couch all night!  So, I'll just be uploading 1 photo to the Mt. Fuji photowalk album today.  🙂

It is a pretty cool one though – this is the sight that greeted us at dawn (around 4AM exactly 1 week ago).  It's because of sunrises like this that people keep trying to climb the mountain; as one of my fellow photowalkers said, "I don't care if I don't reach the top of the mountain anymore – I'm happy that I had the chance to see this view".  🙂

Will probably not be on G+ much today and tomorrow as I'll be out and about, but hope you all have a great weekend!

G+ Mt. Fuji Photowalk image set #3

I was too tired to spend much time going through photos last night; I was literally falling asleep at my desk so I just managed to work on a few before giving up and going to bed.

This set shows our ascent to the 8th station, and the cabin where we stopped to catch some rest for the night.  The huts are not really ideal places to sleep since you're constantly interrupted/woken up by other hikers/climbers, but they are nice places to just stop and catch your breath for a few hours.

This was also the spot where we got our Mt. Fuji sunrise photos, which I'll hopefully be able to post tomorrow.  🙂

G+ Mt. Fuji Photowalk – image set #2

I'm slowly going through all the photos we took on the G+ Mt. Fuji photowalk last weekend.

I'm trying to (more or less) upload the images in chronological order – the first set started from our departure point at Roppongi Hills in Tokyo, the 3hr bus ride to the 5th station on the mountain, and the warm-ups before we started off.

Now you see our group as we started off – still full of energy, and no aching muscles yet.  😉

One random encounter as we were climbing was of a few people carrying what appeared to be a mini statue/replica of Mt. Fuji.  Perhaps some of my Japanese climbing friends can chime in to explain what that was about since I couldn't understand a word they were saying (^^;

More pictures to come in the next couple days…

Have a great day folks 🙂

2012 Mt. Fuji Photowalk

I had the fun of participating in a fantastic photowalk to Mt. Fuji last weekend.  Organized by +holger feroudj and supported by +Google+ , a group of about 21 Gplussers took on the challenge of Mt. Fuji (Fuji-san) and conquered it.

Though this photowalk was more painful than the other photowalks I've participated in (my leg muscles are still recovering, 2 days later!), it was also very memorable.  Most of us were strangers to each other, having never met in real life, yet we banded together, suffered together, and reached the top of the highest mountain in Japan – together.

I took many many pictures, so these are just the start – expect more to come in the next few days.  🙂

To all my fellow climbers and G+ friends –  ?????????!!
