Can you feel

Care to guess what is creating the two borders on the left and right of this image?

In an effort to avoid the polite people (which I mentioned in my earlier post), for this shot I decided to hold my lens behind one of the many mirror stands that are commonly seen in train stations.  These mirrors usually serve as a place where people can quickly check their hair/makeup/etc, but the back of this particular mirror worked well as a "blind".

People no doubt found it a little odd, wondering why I was standing there shooting behind the mirror, but it worked – no one stopped, and I got this humorous image of a passerby looking as if he's about to get romantic with the poster's leading lady.  😉

Sometimes, the train stations in Japan can be a little

"dangerous"

Lots of people with pointy objects running around everywhere and all that 😉

I stood in front of this poster for a while, trying to time the framing of pedestrians just right.  It was a little tricky, because the polite people (thinking that I just wanted a shot of the poster) would stop to give me time to take a picture… even though I wanted them in the image too!

I ended up framing the shot in Live View, and then shooting from the waist while pretending to look around me as people walked by.

In Formation

Spent a large part of Saturday with a friend who is shooting for a project, serving as both moral support and "bodyguard".  A long day, but well worth it as I also got a number of shots I was very happy with.

This is actually straight out of camera, raw converted to tiff to jpg.  I had tried tweaking it a bit in photoshop, but in the end liked the original best, which is rather unusual for me.  Lots more shots to come in the next few days 🙂

Have a good Monday folks!

Was walking to the train station this afternoon and noticed that a mass of dirty yellow sky was darkening the horizon.  Within minutes, the entire sky had changed color, and grit was blowing in my eyes.

I've been in Japan for over 10 years, but this is the first time that the "yellow sand" blowing over from China has been this noticeable..

I didn't stay out any longer, but headed straight home 🙁

Legends of the Holian – Part 2

Was out scouting with Sir Holian a couple weeks ago, and he kindly demonstrated more of his "levitation" abilities – dude's got mad skillz.

He tried to teach me, but I think I'm too tense and just can't do it right yet.  Maybe one day..

(hat tip to +Brian Kemper for the title!)

Only have 2 images to share for this month's +Drink and Click™  challenge – I'm ok with taking surreptitious shots, but it's not easy deliberately approaching strangers and taking their pictures!

Thanks to the sponsors +SmugMug , +ViewBug , and +Think Tank Photo , as well as +Juan Gonzalez and +holger feroudj for the organization bits as well 🙂
