Mid-day break

You can't see them, but there are loads of tourists down below.  He's probably glad he's got his own little spot of quiet up there with the pigeons.

Peace~

I visited Singapore for work last month but unfortunately only had part of a day off, so didn`t have much time to explore.  🙁
I ended up visiting the Gardens By the Bay, a pleasant (and more importantly, COOL) place to spend a few hours admiring the gardens and do some people-watching.

Got a few shots that I liked that day, but I thought this was the most fun 🙂

Decisions, decisions

Tokyo's ubiquitous vending machines offer a myriad of choices -, even the act of choosing something to drink can sometimes give one a moment to pause.

She's in the groove

Work has been kicking my butt the last couple of weeks, but I did have the chance to hang out with +Mark Esguerra last Sunday on a short photowalk organized by +Jeff Austin.  It was a fun, casual walk, just hanging out around Omiya, even getting to play with a strobe/softbox that Jeff carted around.

We ended the day with a stop at this small bar/izakaya.  One of the young waitresses at this place was a very cool girl, and completely up for posing for a bunch of random photographers.  I guess she was just one of those people who doesn't mind being in front of a camera – luckily for us.  🙂

Off to bed.. up bright and early tomorrow..
G'night folks!

City life, reflected

Despite the early hour on a weekend (8AM on Saturday actually), some people still have to go work.  Luckily not me (at least not this particular weekend); instead I spent the day shooting Shinjuku with +andrew holian – much more fun!

There are loads of reflective surfaces in Tokyo, and this was taken at the entrance of a subway station, with the camera pushed up against the wall.  The tree was what initially caught my eye, but I waited until someone also walked by to add the human element that makes street images more interesting.

It's Friday tomorrow and I'm looking forward to shooting the cherry blossoms this weekend – who else is also shooting sakura in Tokyo on Saturday?  🙂

Good night!

Can you feel

Care to guess what is creating the two borders on the left and right of this image?

In an effort to avoid the polite people (which I mentioned in my earlier post), for this shot I decided to hold my lens behind one of the many mirror stands that are commonly seen in train stations.  These mirrors usually serve as a place where people can quickly check their hair/makeup/etc, but the back of this particular mirror worked well as a "blind".

People no doubt found it a little odd, wondering why I was standing there shooting behind the mirror, but it worked – no one stopped, and I got this humorous image of a passerby looking as if he's about to get romantic with the poster's leading lady.  😉

In Formation

Spent a large part of Saturday with a friend who is shooting for a project, serving as both moral support and "bodyguard".  A long day, but well worth it as I also got a number of shots I was very happy with.

This is actually straight out of camera, raw converted to tiff to jpg.  I had tried tweaking it a bit in photoshop, but in the end liked the original best, which is rather unusual for me.  Lots more shots to come in the next few days 🙂

Have a good Monday folks!

Will her wishes be granted?

This was another shot from Meiji Jingu shrine earlier in the year.  Though it wasn't quite "Coming-of-Age day", these young ladies beat the crowds (and as it turns out, the tons of snow that fell the following day) by visiting the shrine a day in advance.

While strolling around the shrine, I caught sight of these young ladies heading towards the prayer section and so I circled around to get in front of them, hoping to get a shot of them in prayer.  Unfortunately, the crowds were so thick that they were continuously blocked until the very end when the crowds parted momentarily and I snapped this young woman as she was stepping away.  She looked so gleeful that I couldn't help but wonder what she had just prayed for – it looked like something fun though!  🙂

Double Vision

I had intended to post another 366 photo, but was too tired to work on it last night so here's one from the archives.

Taken a while back at the park where I do taichi – these little twin brothers just looked too cute. 🙂
