Sno-brella

I didn't take many good shots during last night's unexpected snow flurry. Though it was fun to walk around in, I learned a few things:

1) Taking photos with a DSLR while holding an umbrella is total exercise in frustration

2) A rain cover/water shield for a camera is mandatory while taking photos in the snow (+Jason Arney already told me this, but after last night, I can fully appreciate this advice)

3) Those cheapie 500 yen brollies one gets at the combini are just what they are – cheap, both in price AND in quality.

I bought the one you see below yesterday – I'd forgotten my umbrella that morning and I needed one for my walk home due to the downpour of rain that evening. When it started to snow later that evening, I dressed up, grabbed my camera and the same umbrella, and headed out.

After about 45 minutes of frustrating shooting (see item #1), I headed back to my apartment. I noticed at that point how thickly coated my umbrella was and set it down. No sooner had I snapped the shot than the umbrella spoke twisted and the whole thing collapsed – I had to toss it..

Still can't believe how fragile that thing was, but I guess for 500 yen, I can't complain too much…

Kind of hoping for more snow because I'd still like to get out there and practice shooting in it! 🙂
