This was one of many attempts at ocean/wave shots I took during my recent visit to Miyakejima. I have to say that I have new respect for seascape photographers! It was much harder than I thought it would be to get a decent close up shot of the waves without getting one's camera soaked.
Perhaps Miyakejima's winds are a little stronger than your typical island, but basically I spent 80% of the time wiping my lens free of ocean spray. My strategy was to try to time a wave, fire off a shot, and then jump in front of my camera with the my jacket spread open to try and block as much spray as possible. Still, I estimate that 70-80% of my shots are unusable because the images are covered with water droplets.
Nonetheless, I think I got a few keepers 🙂
