A moment on the Tokyo Metro

I mentioned in a previous post that I have been lent an older, manual 135mm F2.8 lens by a colleague at work.

I took it out for a spin after work last night trying to capture people, but most of the shots were unusable – I just couldn't manually focus fast enough. Obviously, I need a lot more practice with this.

This is the only shot that turned out well, one of those happy accidents. I was standing on the train platform just practicing focus and then train on the platform across from me pulled in. I grabbed a quick shot of this person before the train pulled away again.

I really get quite nervous photographing strangers. On one level I feel like I'm invading their privacy, especially if they're just normal, everyday folk like myself. On the other hand, there is just something completely unique about capturing a moment of someone's life.

I will continue to try my attempts at street photography when I can (and when I have the courage), with my own personal determination to make the images I take as respectful of the people as possible.
