Parallel world

Aside from the usual "yay, no work" (well… usually… I'm actually working this Saturday) that weekends bring, I also look forward to weekends as opportunities to take photos somewhere other than my office area.

Seriously getting a little tired of trying to photograph the same area for almost… wow, 3 months now!

Last Saturday I was out and about in Ginza – there was supposed to be an open street "runway" featuring denim. I thought it would be cool to photograph, but when I got there, it was so crowded that I didn't even bother. Instead I walked around and got some other interesting shots (one good thing about a crowd is that it's much easier to take pictures).

It had drizzled earlier in the day, and I managed to get this cool reflection. You can tell what I did with it right? πŸ˜‰

Gotta rush to work, have a good day/night ya'll!

    Puddle shot flipped upside down?

You got it +Scott Benson – if we ever meet, one beverage of your choice is on me πŸ˜‰

Great shot – took me at least 5 minutes of staring at it to come to that conclusion. At first I thought you composited an HDR and single frame of it and cleaned up the water splotches, but then it's not quite mirrored (writing on the buildings, etc). I suppose you could have reconstructed some of that from a shot without the car, but that'd be a lot of effort just to fool someone like me who is going to stare at it and try to guess how it was done. Then I remembered that with the power of computers, images can actually be rotated, and it clicked!

BTW, beverage of choice is a good stout or porter πŸ™‚

Sorry to strain the brain so much +Scott Benson ! As you say, it was just a matter of rotating 180 degrees in PS πŸ™‚
Will get you that drink one day! πŸ˜‰

Thanks +Agustin Rafael Reyes , it was a fun capture – it's kind of hard to see, but on the bottom image, you can see the person in the car looking at me as I was kneeling on the ground trying to get a good angle in the puddle πŸ˜›

Very cool shot +Jeff M. Wish I could see the puzzled look on their face πŸ˜‰

Thank you muchly +Thomas Paris πŸ™‚
I'll say one thing for these daily photographs… it's making feel less self-conscious when taking pictures in public. I guess desperation (to get that daily photo) will have that effect…

  • March 29, 2012 - 08:46 | Permalink

Desperation? That bad? You sure are doing a fine job with your 366.

  • March 29, 2012 - 08:52 | Permalink

It's nice of you to say so +Thomas Paris πŸ™‚ Maybe it's a mood thing, but lately (particularly on working weekdays) I have felt it tough to find something interesting to shoot. I reckon I just need to kick myself a bit harder :p

  • March 29, 2012 - 09:00 | Permalink

Believe me, I know the feeling. But isn't it precisely when it's getting difficult to find something new to shoot that creativity is supposed to kick in? That would mean your feeling down is actually a good thing πŸ˜‰

Ah..ha..ha.. yes… but you know, right my most "creative" thought has been considering setting my camera timer, running out to place it in the middle of the road, and let it fire away as cars pass over it. I'm hoping my brain comes up with less potentially destructive (and expensive) ways of generating creative shots. :p

  • March 29, 2012 - 09:26 | Permalink

Ouch, potentially destructive indeed. It does sound creative to me, though πŸ˜‰

  • March 29, 2012 - 09:48 | Permalink

If you got me a new camera, I'd gladly attempt this "creative" endeavor +Thomas Paris πŸ˜‰

+Jeff M i have to agree with +Thomas Paris you are putting together a solid year so far. Just keep at it, as the "moodiness" you feel is creative growth.

+Jeff M At first I went "Wow, that's a really crystal clear puddle!" And then "Wait, the subject's dirtier than its reflection!" And finally, "Ahhhh!" It took me so many seconds to figure it out. I actually thought you were doing a texture blend thingy and splotching up the upper half on purpose. Love the "flip it" idea!

  • March 29, 2012 - 14:27 | Permalink

It's really cool, Jeff!! I think sometimes or often simple way makes really creative result like this! πŸ˜‰

  • March 29, 2012 - 14:28 | Permalink

Thanks +Jeff Austin , appreciate the encouragement. I'm definitely keeping up with it and taking something everyday, despite the occasional frustration.

  • March 29, 2012 - 14:33 | Permalink

    Hehe, +Beverly Claire Kaiya , I hope you didn't get frustrated figuring it out (^^;
I'm glad that the 180 flip has made the photo more interesting. πŸ™‚

Thank you +Hidetaka Onoyama ! Sometimes I'm too stiff in my way of thinking, so hopefully these "baby steps" of creativity will lead to more interesting things (^^)

You see now what I mean about getting photos around the house now…I've been getting photos here for four months now! I crave variety!! πŸ˜› But yes, nice photo. For a moment, I thought you'd washed out the 'real world' bit of it, and made the reflection more vibrant…until I saw the gravelly stuff. πŸ˜›

  • March 31, 2012 - 05:44 | Permalink

You can go on local photowalks +Josh M ! I've only got my lunch break time to take photos – the areas I can get to in 30 minutes is fairly limited. You on the other hand, can make a full day of it, so git! πŸ˜›
