These are the final shots from the model workshop I participated in a couple of weeks back.  The left-hand image is my favorite, primarily because it was somewhat accidental.

At the beginning of the workshop we paired off and were told to scout out locations where we'd later shoot the models.  As sir Holian and I were wrapping up and heading back to the meetup point, we saw this little alley/pathway between the buildings.  I went in, more from curiosity to see what was on the other side than anything else, but I also turned around and grabbed a quick shot of +andrew holian out in the street.

I ended up loving the (accidental) result, where the background/street was blown out, creating an somewhat ethereal mood that was countered by the random graffiti.  I knew right away that I'd want to shoot our model here, and this was the final result.  T'was unexpectedly cool.  🙂

Ok

I never heard of the song "Call me Maybe" until this weekend when I stumbled upon the Batman parody version (Do not watch it unless you've already seen the movie as it could be considered spoiler-ish)

Then I saw the Olympic team version (which was pretty cute), then a friend sent me the Abercrombie and Fitch version (O.o), and now today THIS shows up in my G+ stream…

I've never tried Chatroulette, but I have to say this was pretty funny 😀

Got the ok from our 2nd model, Aina, to post her photos as well!

This was actually the first working shot I took on the day of Alfie's workshop.  Prior to actually meeting the models, Sir +andrew holian and I wandered the streets of Kita Senju to scout out locations where we'd photograph our models.

Something about this particular open door caught our eye, and we used it as our first location.  Honestly, I was a bit nervous when it came down to the actual shoot because I wasn't sure what I wanted, let alone how to direct the model.  Luckily Aina was quite patient, and once I figured out that she wasn't going to bite, I started to relax and plan out things that I wanted to try 🙂

More pictures of her to come, but for now, g'night from Tokyo!

These are probably the last shots of Azusa that I'll be uploading to this album…

These are probably the last shots of Azusa that I'll be uploading to this album for now.  There were 2 models, but I'm still waiting to get the OK from her before I post her pictures. 🙂

The first shot in this post owes alot to +Tim Buerger  –  he came up with the idea of setting up the off-camera strobes so as to light up the area behind Azusa in such a cool manner.  I believe we had at least 2 strobes setup behind her, as well as an additional 2-3 in front of her.

It's fun playing around with light this way!  🙂

Adding a couple more shots I worked on from the model shoot before I start work for the day.  I took a number of pictures, so there will be even more to come :p

I'm not particularly used to editing/post processing people, so I'm still figuring out what works and what doesn't.  Obviously depends on what mood/feel I'm going for, but it's been fun trying out different things (such as warming it up in the left image, and cooling things down in the right shot).

Model shoots

It's been well over a month since my last post – between traveling, work, and just life in general, I haven't had much time to go through my pictures.  🙁

I've been taking pictures alright, every single day, but just haven't found the time edit my own stuff – most of the photos I've been working on over the last couple weeks have been for work (events/volunteer activities, etc).

However, that's done (for now), and I can actually go back to my own stuff!  🙂

I'll be uploading a bunch of photos over the next few days from a model photography workshop that was recently run by +Alfie Goodrich .  It was a lot of fun as I've never actually photographed people who model professionally.  It was also trickier than I expected – being able to develop a scene/image in your mind, scouting a location, and then successfully communicating your vision to the model while at the same time keeping in mind the surroundings and equipment… you have to be thinking on several different levels, and I admit that I got flustered.

Still, it was a great experience, and I'm definitely looking to explore this area of photography in the future.  For tonight, just one shot of the model Azusa (who was extremely patient while we alternated between scratching our heads and blinding her with lights) – more to come soon!  🙂

G'night from Tokyo!
