Despite the early hour on a weekend (8AM on Saturday actually), some people still have to go work.  Luckily not me (at least not this particular weekend); instead I spent the day shooting Shinjuku with +andrew holian – much more fun!

There are loads of reflective surfaces in Tokyo, and this was taken at the entrance of a subway station, with the camera pushed up against the wall.  The tree was what initially caught my eye, but I waited until someone also walked by to add the human element that makes street images more interesting.

City life, reflected

It's Friday tomorrow and I'm looking forward to shooting the cherry blossoms this weekend – who else is also shooting sakura in Tokyo on Saturday?  🙂

Good night!

Sometimes it’s fun to stand in front of interesting posters/signboards and time your shots with the people passing by.  Got lucky on this one, where this fellow looks like he’s about to get romantic with the leading lady on the poster.  😉

Can you feel

Care to guess what is creating the two borders on the left and right of this image?

In an effort to avoid the polite people (which I mentioned in my earlier post), for this shot I decided to hold my lens behind one of the many mirror stands that are commonly seen in train stations.  These mirrors usually serve as a place where people can quickly check their hair/makeup/etc, but the back of this particular mirror worked well as a "blind".

People no doubt found it a little odd, wondering why I was standing there shooting behind the mirror, but it worked – no one stopped, and I got this humorous image of a passerby looking as if he's about to get romantic with the poster's leading lady.  😉

Sometimes, the train stations in Japan can be a little

"dangerous"

Lots of people with pointy objects running around everywhere and all that 😉

I stood in front of this poster for a while, trying to time the framing of pedestrians just right.  It was a little tricky, because the polite people (thinking that I just wanted a shot of the poster) would stop to give me time to take a picture… even though I wanted them in the image too!

I ended up framing the shot in Live View, and then shooting from the waist while pretending to look around me as people walked by.

In Formation

Spent a large part of Saturday with a friend who is shooting for a project, serving as both moral support and "bodyguard".  A long day, but well worth it as I also got a number of shots I was very happy with.

This is actually straight out of camera, raw converted to tiff to jpg.  I had tried tweaking it a bit in photoshop, but in the end liked the original best, which is rather unusual for me.  Lots more shots to come in the next few days 🙂

Have a good Monday folks!

Humor Sights & Sounds

Fear the Bucktoothed Pink Rabbit!

Came across these pictures I took of Josh (the friend, not brother) at Tokyu Hands and knew I had to put them up!

I had accompanied him there whilst he was doing some shopping for his family (ended up getting some Star Wars noren for my family as well!) and we came across this display of costumes (I think these were in preparation of Halloween).  He tried them on, I took pictures – and here they are for all to enjoy! 😛 I think they came out well!

For anyone interested, this was at the Tokyu Hands store beside Takashimaya in Shinjuku.  Tokyu Hands is pretty good at having a nice assortment of items, ranging from craft materials, to halloween costumes, to racing bicycles.  Not always the cheapest of places (especially for any brand name items) but their wide assortment of items usually makes up for that.
