An old sakura shot from 2011!  I was comparing some of my images then to some of my images now, and while I definitely feel that I’ve improved, some of my old shots weren’t TOO terrible :p

Sakura Everywhere

This sakura shot was actually taken quite some ago, 2011 in fact!  I was going through my sakura shots of the past couple years, just to see the difference between how I took my shots then vs. now.  I definitely did not like most of my older shots.. But I thought this was pretty.

Probably won't post anything else till Monday as I have a lot of other (non-sakura related) photos to edit, but I figure this is a good image to end the week with 🙂

TGIF!

Sakura

No doubt most of you have already seen dozens of sakura (cherry blossom) photos over the last week or two (particularly if you follow other Japanese photographers), so I hope you're not too "blossomed-out" :p

This was taken last weekend while out with friends.  It's traditional in Japan during the cherry blossom season to go out for "Hanami" – basically going out to sit under the blossoms and enjoy a meal and some drinks.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanami

Though the weather started out cloudy with a 50% chance of rain, the skies cleared and when the sun came out I pointed the camera up and grabbed a few shots.  🙂

Have a good day folks!

Sakura (Cherry blossoms)

Finally got out to shoot some cherry blossoms yesterday.  Though it was fairly cloudy, the sun broke through later in the afternoon and I got some pretty blue skies in the background as well.

More flowers to come later, but now have to dash.  Have a good weekend!  🙂

Despite the early hour on a weekend (8AM on Saturday actually), some people still have to go work.  Luckily not me (at least not this particular weekend); instead I spent the day shooting Shinjuku with +andrew holian – much more fun!

There are loads of reflective surfaces in Tokyo, and this was taken at the entrance of a subway station, with the camera pushed up against the wall.  The tree was what initially caught my eye, but I waited until someone also walked by to add the human element that makes street images more interesting.

City life, reflected

It's Friday tomorrow and I'm looking forward to shooting the cherry blossoms this weekend – who else is also shooting sakura in Tokyo on Saturday?  🙂

Good night!

Japan Alps

Another view of the Japan Alps, shot from the observation deck of the Nishihotakaguchi mountain station.   It provides quite a breathtaking view of the Japan Alps and despite the cold, we stayed up here until closing time taking as many shots as we could.

I've brightened this image considerably to bring out the snow, hopefully haven't overdone it too much… good night from Tokyo!

A little break from my street shots, this was taken earlier this year from a cable car on the Shinhotaka ropeway.  I’m generally not one for shooting from a moving platform (let alone shooting through window smeared with handprints) but I couldn’t resist the patterns in the snow and this one turned out surprisingly clean.
